DETOXIFICATION TREATMENT FOR ALCOHOL

In some cases, at the physician’s discretion, a patient who shows signs of acute alcohol withdrawal, may require medically-assisted detoxification. Some of these signs include:

High blood pressure
Elevated heart rate
Sweating
Shaking

When a patient requires detoxification, we will make the necessary arrangements with a Canterbury Preferred Provider to admit the patient immediately into a comfortable facility that has been pre-qualified to perform a medically-assisted detoxification without the use of benzodiazepines (Librium or Ativan taper which is typically used). Our partner physicians will perform a safe, comfortable detoxification procedure using Phenobarbital. The length of the detoxification period varies from patient to patient, but typically lasts from 3-5 days. A seamless transition will be made directly from the detoxification stage to the medical treatment phase without interruption.
